Jake Paul makes surprise admission about Nate Diaz fight (2024)

After sharing ten hard-fought rounds with Nate Diaz, Jake Paul has revealed that the Stockton native stands out in one particular department.

On August 5, 2023, two of the biggest names in combat sports clashed in a huge showdown at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, with the YouTube sensation emerging the victor. They battled for ten rounds, with Paul dropping Diaz in a dominant win.

Jake Paul claims Nate Diaz is the weakest puncher he’s ever faced

Throughout his boxing career, Jake Paul has received criticism for his opponent selection. While a gifted wrestler, with a lack of fundamental boxing ability and with a dodgy hip, Ben Askren didn’t present much of a threat.

And despite possessing awe-inspiring striking skills, at the age of 47, Anderson Silva certainly wasn’t the man he once was.

Consequently, Paul stepped up a level, signing on the dotted line to face a professional boxer, rising up the mountain rather than falling down. However, the risk didn’t pay off, with Tommy Fury utilizing his slick jab and flashy footwork to win via decision.

The bout proved Paul still had a lot to learn. Thus, he stepped back down the rankings to fight Nate Diaz, who, while smaller and older, had the durability to push the social media icon to the limit.

And while the prospect dominated the early portion of the bout, even dropping the MMA star, eventually, he began to feel the pressure and durability Diaz is renowned for.

By round 8, Diaz briefly returned to the ascendancy, landing multiple shots. Alas, despite a viral clip of the MMA fighter going for the guillotine, he fell short, with Paul showcasing his grit to win via decision.

Now the dust has settled, Paul, who is scheduled to face off with Mike Perry next month before going head-to-head with Mike Tyson in November, welcomed Sean O’Malley onto his show, BS with Jake Paul, and made a stark revelation regarding Diaz’s power.

The 27-year-old claimed: “He’s also the weakest puncher I’ve ever fought. When he was hitting me, I almost started laughing. I’m not even saying this to talk s**t. Out of everyone I’ve sparred in my whole entire life and everyone I’ve fought, it’s him. I’m not even talking s**t, which is why I find it so funny that he dropped Conor McGregor.”

While his statement about the Irishman hitting the canvas is untrue, ‘The Notorious’ was hurt in that match-up, giving Paul yet another stick with which to poke his rival. Regardless, his comments are unlikely to please Diaz, who will undeniably remember them if they ever cross paths again.

Could Jake Paul and Nate Diaz fight in MMA?

After beating his nemesis in the squared circle, Paul wanted to run it back in MMA. However, a collision in the PFL is yet to materialize, with the Cleveland native blaming the UFC legend for the bout not coming to fruition.

During the episode, with O’Malley, Paul asserted: “Nate Diaz is ducking me in MMA.” Clearly intrigued by the match-up, the bantamweight champion gave an analytical breakdown, where despite giving his interviewer credit for his striking prowess, he fears for what Diaz could do with his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills.

The 125lb King explained: “That’s a sick fight. I wish it would’ve happened right after the boxing. Nate’s a high-level blackbelt. If you can keep it standing, 100 per cent there are winnable ways there. If it went to the ground, I feel like he might be able to grab your neck.”

However, despite O’Malley’s words of warning, Paul dismissed Diaz’s craft, suggesting that he has a simple way of dealing with anything his adversary brings to the table. He insisted: “Even if he was on top of me, I would just throw him off of me.”

While his confidence is commendable, it goes without saying that dealing with a high-level Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt is a whole lot tougher than that.
